South Coast Project Manager


The Coastal Conservation League is a nonprofit conservation organization that works with communities, elected officials, businesses, and citizen groups to protect the natural landscapes, abundant wildlife, clean air and water, and quality of life along the South Carolina coast. We are a group of 36 passionate individuals and tackle issues such as flooding, offshore drilling, improving transportation, and smart growth along the coast of South Carolina. We have offices in Charleston, Georgetown, Beaufort, and Columbia as well as operating a food hub in the Charleston area called GrowFood Carolina.

The Coastal Conservation League is searching for a full-time South Coast Project Manager for the Beaufort office who is experienced, reliable, and task-oriented. The Project Manager will work on coastal issues involving land use and transportation, planning, public health, sustainable agriculture, energy and climate, and air and water quality. This job requires extensive grassroots organizing, relationship building, public communication, and policy analysis.

The ideal candidate must be a team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and managing diverse projects in a high-pressure setting. League issues oftentimes need addressing after work hours, and the Project Manager must be willing to respond. He/she must demonstrate creative problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and constant attention to detail.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Building and managing networks of citizens, businesses, and public officials to respond to specific threats to environmental resources
  • Initiating, supporting, and leading grassroots organizing efforts
  • Speaking publicly on a regular basis
  • Writing for internal and external audiences
  • Working with the media and educating the community
  • Monitoring, identifying, and analyzing media, public notices, and permits
  • Attending public meetings and hearings to gather information and/or represent League interests
  • Engaging members of the community in League projects
  • Planning and identifying new projects and strategies
  • Working with the development team on donor and grant opportunities
  • Developing and nurturing relationships with Board members, donors, and members

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Preferred Education and Experience

3+ years of experience in the environmental field, or in communications, media relations, campaign organizing, or related fields
