CHARLESTON, SC – In response to today’s Senate Labor, Commerce & Industry committee vote to advance House Bill 3529, a bill that would prevent local municipalities from addressing plastic pollution and considering bag bans, Coastal Conservation League Land, Water and Wildlife Program Director Emily Cedzo issued the following statement:

Local communities are effectively tackling plastic pollution with local bans. They’re making good progress.

But special interests and industry lobbyists have infiltrated our State House. House Bill 3529 is a rejection of local rights and the will of the people.

Why isn’t our state government working for South Carolinians?
