CHARLESTON, SC—In response to today’s 4-3 vote by the S.C. Transportation Infrastructure Bank to remove financial support for the extension of Interstate 526, Coastal Conservation League Executive Director Laura Cantral issued the following statement:

The bank truly acted in the state’s best interest today.

South Carolina’s existing roads and bridges are crumbling. Like the Wando River bridge, they’re in bad shape and could use critical state support. The Coastal Conservation League commends the bank for focusing limited funding toward the state’s real needs.

Today’s vote is a responsible one and a rejection of a project that isn’t a strategic priority.
