CHARLESTON, SC – In response to tonight’s vote by Mount Pleasant’s Town Council to approve an ordinance banning single-use plastic bags, straws, and Styrofoam, Coastal Conservation League Executive Director Laura Cantral issued the following statement:

Town of Mount Pleasant residents should be proud of Town Council’s vote tonight passing the most comprehensive ban on single-use plastics in state history. An ordinance like this is the best way to keep plastic pollution out of our waterways.

The Coastal Conservation League applauds the leadership of Mount Pleasant’s councilmembers, as well as the residents and business owners who called, emailed, and showed up to support the ordinance. These elected leaders and citizens demonstrated their commitment to clean waterways and a healthy environment for people and wildlife.
