Statement on Anti-Home-Rule Bill Vote

CHARLESTON, SC – In response to a vote ending discussion this year of a bill that would preclude local governments from addressing the pollution problems associated with disposable plastic products, Coastal Conservation League Air, Water, and Public Health Director Katie Zimmerman issued the following statement:

“Today’s vote reaffirms the commitment of the South Carolina House of Representatives to the principles of home rule and local solutions to local problems. We thank the hundreds of Conservation League members who contacted their Representatives to oppose this bill, and the many Representatives who stood up for coastal communities and the fishing and tourism businesses that support them.”
