Statement on Governor McMaster

CHARLESTON, SC – In response to Henry McMaster becoming the Governor of South Carolina, Coastal Conservation League Executive Director Dana Beach issued the following statement:

I congratulate Governor McMaster on becoming the 117th Governor of South Carolina. The Coastal Conservation League looks forward to working with him on protecting the quality of life that attracts so many to South Carolina, on increasing clean energy jobs, and on protecting the marshes, rivers, and lakes where we fish and swim.

Governor McMaster, in his long history of service to the State of South Carolina, has stood up for conserving what makes South Carolina such a beautiful state. As Attorney General for example, Governor McMaster fought hard for the waters of the Catawba River. He has also been a great advocate for our beautiful coastal black water rivers, protecting them from capricious actions that would undermine comprehensive planning in Beaufort County.

In particular, Governor McMaster’s concerns about the risks of offshore drilling to tourism, sport and commercial fishing, and our way of life give us reason for optimism about the priorities of the new administration.

We expect this sort of strong leadership on the environment to continue in his new role.”

The Coastal Conservation League is a non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the coastal resources of South Carolina.  Our mission is to protect the natural landscapes, abundant wildlife, clean water and traditional communities by working with citizens, local governments and the state legislature.
