Tickton Hall feasibility study prioritized ahead of Ridgeland annexation decision

by Emmi Palenbaum

As of late April, the Town of Ridgeland has cancelled the public hearing for the 1,520-acre  Tickton Hall development scheduled for this Thursday, May 2nd, citing the need for a third-party feasibility study.

If annexed into the Town, this development would bring 3,000 homes and 50 docks to a rural area of Jasper County lacking water and sewer services and infrastructure, potentially spelling trouble for the environment and the region’s quality of life.

Over the past few weeks, the Conservation League has advocated for the third-party feasibility study, which would measure the costs and potential benefits of such large-scale development. The feasibility study will enable the Town Council to comprehensively evaluate the annexation and development and arrive at an informed decision that is supported by unbiased data.

We commend the Town of Ridgeland Council for cancelling the public hearing and support postponing future hearings until the study is complete.

A regular Town Council meeting will take place at 6:00 PM this Thursday at the Town Hall. View the agenda here.

Thank you for your interest in this important land use decision. Your support is greatly appreciated and we will keep you up to speed as the Tickton Hall and Chelsea issues evolve.

Together, our advocacy is making a difference to protect special places in the Lowcountry!
